Staff report

The city of Suffolk is home to approximately 96,000 people. It’s the ninth most populated city in the state, as well as the most significant in terms of land boundary. What it’s perhaps best known for is its peanut processing industry. However, the city has a lot more to offer, let’s explore some events coming up:

The Pinner House Holiday Market

The Pinner House is a boutique bed and breakfast with over 130 years of history. It also functions as a space for events. One such event that’s coming up is The Pinner House Holiday Market.

Taking place on 4 December from 11:00 to 16:00, it’s open to the public and offers artisan stalls, live music, an assortment of drinks and a gift wrap station. There are even portraits with Santa Claus available for the younger ones. You’ll find The Pinner House on Pinner Street in the Downtown Suffolk area.

Annual Gingerbread House Contest

This will be the second gingerbread house-making contest in Suffolk. It will be held at The Historic de Witt Cottage in Virginia Beach. The theme for this year’s competition is ‘Have Fun with the Holidays’. Contestants are encouraged to show off their skills and explore their creativity with the gingerbread houses.

There are only 50 entrants allowed, and registration closes on Monday, 21 November. All gingerbread houses will be displayed from 1-22 December, with the winners announced from 23 December onwards.

Workshop for Singles

There are many events for singles taking place throughout Suffolk in the near future. These are designed to encourage people to mix and mingle, and form lasting connections with new partners. Most of these are speed dating sessions where you have brief dates with lots of fellow singles in succession.

The aim is to make a good impression, and hopefully, you’ll end up meeting someone you’ll see again. Look out for events taking place throughout Suffolk in Newport News, Norfolk, Chesapeake and Richmond.

As it’s a sneaker ball, there’s no need to wear fancy shoes or high heels – sneakers will do just fine. Doors open at 20:00, and the event is scheduled to last till midnight.

Deck the Halls and Dance

If you’re in the mood for some festive line dancing, head to Wall Street Cafe Inc. in Suffolk on Sunday, 18 December.
