The following players have been selected to the USA TODAY NETWORK All-New Jersey football defensive teams.

Steve Angeli

Bergen Catholic senior quarterback

Angeli piloted New Jersey’s No. 1 team to a 12-0 record, punctuated with a Non-Public A title. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound right-hander went 117-for-170 (69 percent) for 1,717 yards, 15 touchdowns and two interceptions. He rushed 62 times for 218 yards and four scores. He is committed to Notre Dame.

Enzo Arjona

Northern Highlands senior quarterback

For the second time in three years, Angeli led the Highlanders (12-1) to a North regional final. The 6-foot, 180-pounder piloted an attack that totaled more than 5,000 yards. He went 135-for-218 for 2,403 yards, 30 touchdowns and six interceptions. He carried 136 times for 767 yards and seven scores. He is committed to Monmouth. 

Hamas Duren

Winslow senior quarterback

Duren guided the Eagles to their first sectional championship in school history as he went 166-for-312 passes for 2,883 yards, a state-best 37 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He was also a threat with his legs as he ran for 338 yards and 8 scores.

LeQuint Allen

Millville senior running back

Allen powered the Thunderbolts to their first sectional title since 2016 and the program’s first regional championship as he had 224 carries for 1,905 yards and 22 touchdowns. The Syracuse commit also snared 22 passes for 305 yards and four scores and was a force on defense with more than 100 tackles for Millville.

Brandon Boria

Cherokee junior running back

After taking home All-New Jersey second team honors as a sophomore, Boria garnered first team recognition this year as he ran 206 times for 1,694 yards and 23 scores. He also caught nine passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns.

Ryan Butler

Bergen Catholic senior running back

Butler was the backbone of Bergen Catholic’s multi-faceted attack. The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder was a bruising runner who seemed to relish contact and rushed 210 times for 1,193 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also caught 21 passes for 296 yards and two scores. He is committed to Princeton.

Damon Phillips

East Orange senior running back

Phillips amassed 2,143 all-purpose yards, including 1,931 rushing yards, and 23 total touchdowns for the undefeated Jaguars. He had 10 games with at least 100 rushing yards and three games with at least 200 yards on the ground. At 5-foot-6 and 170 pounds, Phillips could be the best pound-for-pound runner in New Jersey.

JoJo Bermudez

Cedar Creek senior wide receiver

The Cincinnati recruit had one of the greatest seasons for a receiver in South Jersey history as the Pirates went undefeated and won the South/Central Group 3 regional crown. Bermudez made 91 catches (No. 2 all-time in South Jersey) for 1,662 yards (No. 1 all-time in South Jersey) and 14 touchdowns. He also had a pick-6 and two punt return scores.  

Lotzeir Brooks

Millville freshman wide receiver

The highly-touted freshman more than delivered on the preseason hype as he snared 37 passes for 971 yards and scored 15 touchdowns for the Thunderbolts. He was a lockdown cornerback too as he snatched five interceptions on the campaign.

Elijah Steward

Holy Spirit senior wide receiver

Steward broke every single-season and career receiving record in Holy Spirit history this year. He registered 60 catches for 1,081 yards and 15 touchdowns this fall and finished with 132 grabs for 2,101 yards and 30 scores during his time with the Spartans.

Thomas Amankwaa

Hillsborough senior athlete

The wide receiver/running back/defensive back/kick returner led the Raiders to a 13-0 campaign and the South/Central Group 5 championship. The Rutgers-bound Amankwaa, a three-year starter, caught 36 passes for 853 yards and 12 touchdowns, adding 89 rushing attempts for 1,128 yards and 15 scores. He set a single-season program record with 29 touchdowns.

Alex Bauman

Red Bank Catholic senior tight end

A repeat All-New Jersey selection, Bauman was the leader of a Red Bank Catholic team that won the Non-Public B championship. A dominant blocker, Bauman was also a tough matchup for opposing defenses. He had 26 receptions for 432 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, he had 78 tackles, seven sacks, 15 tackles for a loss, 18 quarterback hurries and two fumble recoveries. 

Chase Bisontis 

Don Bosco junior lineman

Bisontis, a second-team All-New Jerseypick last season, helped the young Ironmen (8-5) overcome a 1-3 start and reach the Non-Public A final. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound tackle blocked for an attack that totaled almost 3,500 yards. He is ranked among the nation’s top linemen in the Class of 2023 and has more than 30 offers.

Dominick Brogna

Bergen Catholic senior lineman

Brogna was the top lineman for an offense that amassed more than 4,400 yards, including 2,491 on the ground. The 6-foot-3, 295-pounder and his fellow linemen were a big reason the Crusaders averaged 35.1 points per game and were a consensus Top 10 team in the nation. He is committed to Delaware.

Gavin Kennedy 

St. Augustine senior lineman

The Bucknell commit played right tackle for the best offensive line in South Jersey this year. He helped the Hermits rush for 2,200 yards and throw for 1,136 more. 

Caron McNair 

Donovan Catholic senior lineman

After moving from left guard to left tackle, he led one of the Shore Conference’s best offensive lines. Donovan Catholic rushed for 2,731 yards and threw for 1,181 yards for a total of 3,912 yards or an average of 355.6 yards a game. 

Andre Oben 

St. Peter’s Prep senior lineman

Oben was the central figure for New Jersey’s biggest offensive line. The Marauders (8-4) averaged 25.4 points per game and the 6-foot-4, 300-pounder paved the way for an offense that totaled 3,500 yards. Oben, whose father, Roman, played four of his 12 NFL seasons with the Giants, is committed to Purdue.

Jai Patel

South Brunswick senior kicker

Patel was an X-factor for the Vikings in his career. He set program records with 22 field goals, 67 touchbacks and 78 extra points, never missing on a PAT. This season, the Rutgers-bound Patel made nine of his 11 FG attempts and all 23 of his PATs.
